Empowering Indigenous Youth in Uganda, Protecting Our Future

Indigenous youth remain among the most marginalized in Uganda - excluded from decision-making, denied access to education, land, and healthcare, and often left behind in national development. At Indigenous Voices Uganda (IVU), we are changing this reality through our REACH framework - Rights, Education, Agriculture, Conservation, and Health.

Who We Are

Indigenous Voices Uganda (IVU) is a youth-led and youth-centered organization founded by and for indigenous communities. We work to amplify the voices of marginalized indigenous youth ensuring they are not only seen and heard, but also included in shaping Uganda’s future.

Our vision is of a Uganda where indigenous youth have the rights, skills, opportunities, and confidence to thrive while preserving their cultural identity.

Our Approach: REACH

Our work is guided by REACH, a framework designed to address the root causes of marginalization and create opportunities for indigenous youth:

  • R - Rights: Securing land rights, advancing human and sexual rights, and ensuring inclusion in governance.

  • E - Education: Breaking barriers to access, offering vocational training, and linking learning to employment.

  • A - Agriculture: Revitalizing indigenous farming systems through regenerative and sustainable practices.

  • C - Conservation: Safeguarding indigenous heritage, wildlife, and ecosystems while tackling climate change.

  • H - Health: Promoting sexual and reproductive health, WASH, and access to essential healthcare.
